WHAT IS CROSSFIT IRON FITNESS?

Developed by Greg Glassman in 2000, crossfit has gained reputation around the world for its unique training method which combines high-intensity interval training with many other fitness exercises to bring out the competitiveness within you.

CrossFit Iron Fitness delivers what you want. We respect the individual and will train you as such. Our programming isn’t random, but carefully chosen to respect the principles of progressive overload, and your awesomeness.

We love Olympic lifting and all things strength related, which is evident in our dedicated strength sports section and programming. We are heavily holistic ? it’s not just about how you train and what you eat. We are not elitists in our approach, but take pride in what we do.

Our gym programs are hard, fun, exciting, challenging, and will push you to be your absolute best. Through our own observation and application, as well as those of the experts we’ll expose you to, we’ll make sure of it!

Most importantly, we know how to keep you safe, keep you training, and keep you progressing!

Most profess that they will teach you how to move better, but that’s a fairly easy thing to accomplish considering most don’t know how to move well! The skill comes in not just teaching how to move based on your current abilities, but in identifying why you can’t move the way you should and in being able to offer solutions. We will improve your biomechanical efficiency. This is a major point of difference at The Strong Room. We will explain to you:

  • Why you can’t squat properly.
  • Why pressing hurts your shoulders or back.
  • Why you keep getting injured.
  • Why stretching isn’t increasing your flexibility.
  • If you actually have the correct profile to be able to squat arse to grass, or do overhead work.
  • Why you aren’t progressing.
  • And, we will fix it!

Our ability to coach you is directly influenced by our knowledge of you and the information you ask of us. We encourage a community that is open, honest, and inquisitive. Ask questions. If we can’t help, we won’t pretend we can. We realize quality is not an act, we know it’s a habit. We know that if you want exceptional results, your efforts must be exceptional. DO I HAVE TO GET FIT FIRST? I’VE HEARD CROSSFIT IS HARD!

In short, no, you don’t need to get fit first. That’s the purpose of scaling workouts and movements to your needs.? It’s important to realise that much like health, fitness is an active, live and evolving state that is never reached but is in constant flux. One should always be working on it. The beauty of CrossFit, even though it’s done in an encouraging group environment, is that we all, as individuals are constantly trying to improve ourselves and push ourselves to be our best. This makes every work out challenging, because it’s an individual challenge. It’s as hard as you make it for yourself! There is always something to improve, your form, your time, your intensity, your mental toughness.

I’VE HEARD CROSSFIT WILL INJURE ME AND TEACH ME BAD FORM?

Injuries happen in all sports. Amusingly, most of the injuries we deal with are office/sedentary based! For us form is paramount. Not your Fran time, or your 1RM squat weight. We are huge on giving people the appropriate profile (read ?ability?) to be able to do the work that’ll be required of them. We also understand that biomechanically some people are just not designed for particular movements. We respect all individuals, will progress you individually, and will never expect anything of you that we haven’t appropriately prepared you. It’s common sense really!

I HAVE A PAST/CURRENT INJURY AND AM AFRAID IT’LL GET AGGRAVATED.

We are strong advocates of the ?use it or lose it principle’. In most cases the best thing you can do is move. As a result, we are strong believers in regular prehab, rehab, development of weaknesses, and improving mechanics. Whatever your current condition, we can scale workouts to your needs, and prescribe the necessary movements to allow you to heal, and get stronger. We also have a great network of health practitioners we work with to support us in these efforts, and will always work with the practitioner of your choice if you’re consulting someone at present.

CROSSFIT SEEMS EXPENSIVE, IS IT?

The bottom line is that it comes down to service, and quality of instruction. Our coaches provide top quality coaching. You are essentially getting group personal training, with far more opportunity to train, and at a fraction of the cost a typical group session would offer. Increase the frequency of your training, increase the quality of instruction, and increase your results!

I LIKE TO JUST FOLLOW YOUR BLOG AND DO YOUR WOD’S AT HOME, IS THAT OKAY?

Really, this is an ‘at your own risk’ issue. We aren’t able to condone the use of our WOD’s by anyone who hasn’t been coached through by us. If you really like our programming, and want the most from it, come and try the experience for yourself! If you don’t come because you find class times hard to make, or you’d prefer to avoid the group atmosphere, why not try some one on one private coaching?

WHAT ARE YOUR PROGRAMMING GOALS?

Sorry to answer a question with a question, but what other goal is there other than to improve? Improve in what way? We aim to improve your strength, balance, speed, agility, endurance, flexibility, power, and co-ordination. And of course aesthetics! Who doesn’t want to look good naked!? All of your bio-motor abilities are focused on at various times, developed and nurtured. The idea being, the bigger your foundation? – the higher your peak will be. We are constantly assessing our community as a whole, and you as an individual within it, and will program to the needs of both.

CAN I GET A WORKOUT IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME?

Obviously a question for someone new to CrossFit, as anyone who’s experienced CrossFit would give a resounding yes! Remember WOD’s are varied, some will be deliberately shorter than others. Each is challenging in it’s own way. And keep in mind, you are here for an hour, the whole hour will be utilized, and you will feel you’ve worked out, we can assure you of that.
